Ballard Food Service Update
Starting Monday, September 21, 2020, Ballard CSD will be switching from the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program (NSLP) to the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) that the USDA recently extended. Doing this will allow the district to provide free breakfast and lunch to all district students. The program is scheduled to run until December 31, 2020 or until USDA funds run out.
At this point, no one really knows when this funding may run out, so like everything related to COVID-19, it will be a fluid process and we will notify families as soon as possible of any changes.
For the time being, this means:
*All Ballard CSD students are eligible for free meals (breakfast and lunch) starting 9/21/2020.
*We will serve students attending on-site at all 4 building locations.
*Meals will be made available for pick up from all 4 building locations for on-line distance learners.
*Additional items (2nd milk, 2nd entree, ala carte) will be charged at the normal price.
*Milk with a meal brought from home is considered an additional item and will be charged at the normal price.
For families with on-line distance learners, there will be a weekly sign-up for meal pick up. More information will follow on the weekly survey that is sent out to families with on-line distance learners.
When USDA funds run out, we will go back to the NSLP and students will be charged according to their eligibility. For now, the free meals will be the only option for school breakfast and lunch, other than students bringing their own lunch from home. The district also encourages families to keep their free/reduced meal applications up to date so they are on file when the district must switch back to the NSLP.
