A School District Focused on Student Success
Serving more than 1,860 students across grades preK-12, the Ballard Community School District offers students a wide range of opportunities that prepare them for success in the classroom and beyond. We are committed to ensuring a culture of excellence for every student.
In fact, more than 70 percent of our graduates are enrolled in a college or university within one year of high school. Ballard High School students have achieved a graduation rate of 97.7 percent and and an average ACT score of 23—both well above the state average
Our school district also benefits from the incredible work of the Ballard Educational Foundation, which has donated more than $540,000 to programs and services in our schools in recent years.
Ballard CSD was formed in 1957, when the communities of Cambridge, Huxley, Kelley, and Slater came together to create a public school system that served children from throughout our area. Today, our district encompasses about 85 square miles in the growing “Golden Circle,” situated between Ames and Des Moines. This location allows us to enjoy the perks of living in a small-town setting with the ability to quickly take advantage of the amenities available in these larger cities.

The Ballard Community School District will educate the whole child, providing the essential knowledge and skills necessary to be a successful and responsible citizen in the 21st Century.
Students will demonstrate proficiency in literacy and communication, mathematics, science and social studies and will experience the fine and performing arts through study and/or performance.
Students will be creative thinkers who demonstrate the ability to research and use information and set, prioritize, and act on decisive goals both independently and in a group.
Students will demonstrate respect for themselves and for the diversity of others and will act with respect, be supportive, welcoming, productive and encouraging.
Students will possess life skills that will enable them to be responsible, contributing members of family, community and society.
Students will demonstrate proficiency in the 21st Century Skills: financial literacy, health and wellness, employability and work skills.
